MAKING LIGHT WORK OF HEAVY GOING
When AW Demolition, based in the north west of England, was awarded a significant contract to demolish part of a large shopping centre in Warrington, Cheshire, they decided to invest in two of the very latest Demarec DLP 50 pulverisers, the first in the country, from dealers MTK Breakers.
Headed up by Austin Wilkinson, AW Demolition was established just over a decade ago and today is one of the leading specialist contractors in the industry. Their highly experienced skilled operators can dismantle the most challenging of structures – from factories and iron foundries to shopping centres, schools, and office blocks - using the safest techniques in the demolition sector.
Although located in Manchester, distance is no issue for the company which takes on demolition contracts of any size and difficulty across the UK. It operates a program of continuous training to ensure that its staff benefit from expert knowledge of health and safety regulations. All their operators are fully NVQ qualified, while all their equipment is of a demolition specification for maximum safety.
The company is continuing to grow its customer base and regularly invests in its already impressive fleet of machines and equipment to keep it at the forefront of the demolition industry. The latest additions being the Demarec pulverisers, which can be used for primary and secondary demolition.
They have been attached to two demolition specification Kiesel KMC machines that consist of a modified base Hitachi Zaxis 350LC, and were quickly put to work on the Cockhedge Shopping Centre. Here, 16 retail units including the former Wilko site and a pedestrian bridge are being demolished to make way for the redevelopment of the popular retail centre. Works include the rebranding of existing entrances to the mall, the landscaping of pedestrian routes to provide an attractive mix, hard and soft landscaped features and the relocation of some car parking.
AW Demolition have four machines on the project ranging from 13 tonne up to 70 tonnes. They are utilising a variety of attachments such as grabs, breakers, and buckets in addition to the new Demarec DLP 50 pulverisers. These have been used on the shopping centre’s disused reinforced concrete frame buildings, from which the wire has been extracted and safely removed.
“The Demarec DLP 50 is known for its robust construction, high crushing force, and compatibility with various excavators…”
Comments Paul Birch, Demarec’s UK Sales Director: “The Demarec DLP 50, which is a hydraulic pulveriser designed for the demolition and recycling of concrete structures, is part of Demarec's Eco line, emphasising environmental efficiency. The DLP 50 is known for its robust construction, high crushing force, and compatibility with various excavators. It contributes to sustainable practices in the demolition industry by efficiently processing concrete waste.”
And that is exactly what the operators at AW Demolition have found. “This is the first project the new DLP 50 pulverisers have been employed on and they are proving to be very efficient, helping us to quickly get through big volumes of material,” says the company’s Contracts Manager Tom Sloyan.
They are the biggest in Demarec’s new competitively priced Eco Line range available for use on machines from 4 tonnes to 55 tonnes. With nine models in the range, they feature a bolt on exchangeable tooth plate, exchangeable cutting blades, wear plate, scraper teeth and shrouds and a robust pivot point for a longer lifespan. Other features include filters in the rotation circuit, speed valve for faster cycle times and an upsidedown cylinder design that fully protects the cylinder rod.
Although competitively priced, no concessions were made to quality during development of the range. Other products in the Eco Line series include DSP static pulverisers and DCC 2-cylinder concrete crushers.
The DSP Eco Line static pulverisers have been developed for excavators from 15 – 55 tonnes and are intended for the mid segment. They are also suitable for use on smaller machines and, of course, they too have the Demarec stamp of quality.
Meanwhile, the DCC Eco Line Concrete Crusher is based on the concept of two moveable jaws. The two pivot points ensure that the jaws have more torque to generate a high closing force.
The DCC Eco Line Concrete Crusher is developed for primary demolition. It can demolish reinforced concrete such as viaducts, quaysides, bridges, and foundations. The blades at the back of the jaws are used to cut through the steel reinforcement in the concrete.
Key features and benefits include double rotator motors or single piston motor ensure a high rotation force; optimal force closing curve; filters in rotator that protect the rotation circuit; high penetrating force for cutting; robust slewing ring that ensures it will survive even the heaviest demolition work; highly durable jaws; optimum cylinder protection; and a hydraulic system that is completely protected by the yoke.

Making the investment in the new DLP pulverisers was an easy decision for AW Demolition. “We already run a number of Demarec’s Multi Quick Processors,” says Tom.
“The MQP 25, 30 and 45 models, with their interchangeable jaw sets, have proved very efficient and reliable.”
The MQPs are available in four different types with six to eight jaw sets for cutting concrete structures with rebars, crushing concrete, wood and for cutting steel structures and tanks. The jaws are a perfect match for all tough conditions during demolition and recycling.
All Demarec Multi-Quick Processors are equipped with the renowned Dema Power-System. This unique cylinder design is an in-house innovation by Demarec. The cylinder has 20% more power by using four instead of two oil chambers as used by conventional cylinders. The MQP has extremely fast cycle times thanks to using a double-acting speed-valve. The jaws open and close within five seconds!
“As we have kitted out our machines with Lehnhoff Lehmatic quick hitch systems, it is an easy and time saving process for the operator to switch over from the Demarec DLP 50 pulverisers as and when needed, allowing us to be even more efficient and productive on site,” says Tom.
“In our business, it is all about safety and efficiency and eliminating any unnecessary downtime which is why we also appreciate the excellent service and support provided by MTK Breakers with whom we have been dealing for many years. They have supplied us with quite a few Demarec attachments, which have always proved reliable,” adds Tom.
“Being local to us in Manchester is also a bonus, as is the fact that they provide us with national coverage. That’s important to us, too – and if we need an attachment to do a specific job, they are always there to help us find the right piece of kit.”
