Awesome Earthmovers were on site with DAB Civils as a guest of SANY dealer, Global Machinery Solutions, who have been contracted to an extensive 220-house build project in the South of England.
We caught up with operator Wayne Ward who was working with the civils group on this project. The SANY 305C was deployed for creating and filling deep drainage systems for the large number of homes being built. These drainage holes need to be between five and six metres deep, requiring repeated precision to ensure operational success, especially with so many to complete by the end of the project.
The ground on site was especially hard given a dry spell and with large pieces of rock embedded, the SANY 305C appeared to pull through with ease – able to both excavate the holes and carry the drainage piping. Ward had nothing but compliments for the 305C. The machine’s heavy-duty undercarriage and solid boom provide an exemplary level of stability. “Even on the narrow tracks, when you’re picking up a big bucket, that level of stability is maintained,” says Ward.
SANY Specifics – An Eye for Detail
SANY has gone to great lengths to ensure the cab of the 305C is a great place to spend the working day. Operator comfort is a major consideration on this machine, containing luxuries such as an openable skylight, adjustable armrests and automatic air conditioning. And then you come to the seat. The seat is fitted with air-suspension for an outstanding ride and can be adjusted to suit any operator’s preference. There’s also integrated seat heating for colder days on site.
As much as comfort is the initial selling point of this excavator, the 305C also boasts a Cummins QSL9-C280 engine producing 280hp at 2,100rpm. The SY390H, which is 10 tonnes heavier, produces only 50hp more.
The bang-for-buck engine in the 305C is also complemented by a high-res’ 10-inch touchscreen display inside the cab. This display gives operators complete control over how the machine behaves based on its intended application; for example, there are five presets for working pressure and oil flow available which can be configured differently for various attachments. Furthermore, when changing attachments the switch off mode is fast and uncomplicated.
This display screen also shows images from the two cameras mounted as standard on the machine. As intuitive as the display is in the 305C, it is, perhaps just as importantly, simple.
Wayne Ward went on to say: “It’s a good machine, as good as anything I’ve driven, I wouldn’t say there’s anything lacking on it from the work I’ve completed. It’s done really well, and I’m pleased with it… I haven’t felt as if I’ve wanted more at all.”
Name The Task, They’ll Have a Solution
David Bates, Managing Director of DAB Civils talked us through their current lineup and workload: “We have fifty plus machines in our fleet operating across ten to fifteen live sites at any one time.”
For the past four years, DAB Civils have been supported by Global Machinery Solutions. With two sites in Newark, Nottinghamshire and Mildenhall, Suffolk, they are a leading supplier of SANY machinery, from mini diggers, up to 75 tonne excavators and a growing range of telehandlers.

Founded in 2002 and beginning trade in 2004 as BE Recycling Ltd, Global was originally a small-scale distributor of Bandit Industries woodchippers. By 2006 BE Recycling Ltd had established a foothold in Europe, this led to a merger with a rival company and a name change to Global Recycling Solutions. It wasn’t until 2019 that the company became distributor for their first machinery outside of forestry: the Pronar range of Shredders and Trommels. Shortly after this move, in 2020, Global became the appointed distributor for SANY excavators in East Anglia, Lincolnshire, Hertfordshire and Essex. From here their expansion into the construction industry boomed, capped by a name change to their current title, Global Machinery Solutions in 2022.
Managing Director, Edward Baker, told us during their time supplying DAB Civils, Global Machinery Solutions have been constantly available and able to offer a willingness to accommodate most site requests.
This occasion called for a new, larger than usual machine which could also offer efficiency, economic sustainability and machine stability for long periods of time. The SANY 305C was the obvious choice given its great price and proven operational merit.
Managing Director at Global, Edward Baker, told us why DAB Civils chose to purchase a machine from them for this project:
“The price was right and the machine comes with an industry leading five-year warranty. We’re also local and have the engineers and the service department running out of Mildenhall to provide responsive backup when required. We just had everything David needed in a machine. At the end of the day, it was a great package.”
Global also offer a large stock of crushers, screeners, shredders, stump grinders and have recently launched a service contracts division offering 24/7 support to reduce downtime significantly.
