NO EFFICIENCY WASTED

Moving and processing waste from businesses and private customers in an environmentally friendly way isn’t just about recycling. As REWAG Entsorgung AG know, it’s about maximising the efficiency of all their on-site systems. This includes the machinery they run across their three Switzerland sites, which is where SENNEBOGEN’s material handlers come in.

Operating in three locations on the outskirts of Basel, REWAG Entsorgung AG processes thousands of tonnes of waste each year. This ranges from household rubbish brought to site via their skip hire business to commercial construction and demolition waste. As such, their processing systems have been developed to deal with a vast range of materials efficiently.

Their disposal processes are also environmentally friendly, with most waste being sorted manually using specialised operators and material handlers. This leads to a high recyclability rate which, alongside their optimised systems, makes their overall operation greener.

Highly efficient machinery is also key to their competitiveness.

A central feature of SENNEBOGEN’s machines, the REWAG team had no doubts about returning to the manufacturer to replace a material handler.

HIGH-RATE RECYCLING

Founded in 1996, REWAG Entsorgung AG now operates sites in Munichstein, Sissach and Kaiseraugst, all within a 30km radius of Basel. The primary site at Kaiseraugst is the base for 24 employees, including five machine operators. This team works to separate materials from both private and commercial waste ready to be recycled.

Three SENNEBOGEN machines operate within the site’s sorting process. The 817 E is the smallest material handler on site (and in the manufacturer’s range). With a reach of up to nine metres and an operating weight of up to 18.6 tonnes, it works as a mobile machine.

A compact, electric 821 E is used as a stationary machine, with a reach of nine to 13 metres and an operating weight between 23.9 and 25.1 tonnes.

Another 821 model was also operating as a mobile material handler within the system. The size of the site fleet is typical of the recycling business which, to ‘deliver environmentally friendly disposal at fair prices’, needs to focus on efficiency as much as possible.

That’s why, when the mobile 821 had reached 14,000 operating hours (2,000 per year), the new SENNEBOGEN 824 G model was a natural replacement. As the site’s Operations Manager Urs Kaiser explains, “We were really happy with the old machine, so it was always clear to me that we’d choose this brand again.

“SENNEBOGEN machines are easy to operate. We have five operators on site and everyone drives every machine. They’re already familiar with how these material handlers work so every driver can quickly become efficient with every machine.”

MAX PERFORMANCE MACHINES

An upgrade of the 821 model, the efficiency-focused features of the 824 G also appealed to the REWAG team. With a reach of 12 metres and an operating weight of up to 26.3 tonnes, it has the trademark SENNEBOGEN modular design. This means each machine can be adapted to specific material handling needs.

A range of attachments is available with the model, including an orange peel grab, clamshell grab, magnet and sorting grab. REWAG’s new model was supplied with a ULM deflection mechanism. A variety of undercarriage options can be selected depending on site needs.

This includes different pylon heights of between 0.5 and 3 metres and wheeled, track or pedestal designs.

As an environmentally-focused business, the energy efficiency of these machines was also a major benefit. The efficient diesel engine has an automatic idle system to help lower fuel consumption, with optimised hydraulics also maximising energy use. In-cab SENCON control systems also make it possible for operators to closely manage energy consumption. Plus Stage V exhaust systems add to the machine’s green credentials.

The design also maximises the productivity of operators. Ergonomic seats and quality climate control in the spacious latest generation MaxCab are just the beginning. As the operator who has primary responsibility for the new machine, Pascal Graff, explains, “I like the comfort of the MaxCab, especially its extra large seat. The continuous windshield means I can see the whole working area easily, which helps keep everyone safe. I can’t lie, I’m pretty proud to be operating this new machine.”

MORE THAN EFFICIENCY

It’s not just the ease of use and in-cab comfort benefiting the business and its operators. The machine’s straight forward servicing processes are also a major advantage. “The components are more central and the service points are easy to reach,” Pascal explains. “This makes the maintenance of the machine much easier.”

The machine’s SENCON and SENTRACK technology also means its condition can be managed around the clock from all over the world. This helps operation managers see how the machine is being used and plan any repairs or servicing more easily, with any drops in performance being pinpointed quickly.
