EDGE SCREENPRO S18
Several years in the design process and after months of real life trials and tests ahead of it going into full production, EDGE Innovate’s highly versatile screening solution, the new EDGE SCREENPRO S18, is ready to be revealed to the market.
Designed to process the most difficult and demanding of materials including aggregate, construction waste, sand and gravel, soils and organics, and with numerous screen media options and configurations available, the EDGE SCREENPRO heavy duty, tracked scalping screen has been built in direct response to requests from the company’s existing dealer network and wider customer base.
Tom Connolly, EDGE Innovate’s Global Sales Manager, has told Awesome Earthmovers magazine that he believes there is huge potential for the EDGE SCREENPRO S18 going forward. “Many of our dealers and partners, especially in North America, have been lobbying us for some time to bring out a machine like this and we firmly believe this is now the right time to launch it.”
He adds: “Over the last 14 to 18 months we have had our R&D team of engineers working solely on bringing the machine to the final stages of production. We have spent hundreds of hours testing it on compost applications, in a quarry setting and in other areas to identify any potential issues before rolling it out to our distribution network. It is set to become an anchor product in our already extensive range for years to come.”
The dynamic 18’x6’ (5.4x1.75m) two-deck screen of the EDGE SCREENPRO S18 features interchangeable flip flow and conventional scalper screens. This flexibility allows the EDGE SCREENPRO S18 to tackle screening applications that other conventional screens cannot, such as incinerator slag or wet, damp and sticky material.
Other impressive design features include a low-level feed hopper, 2or 3way split configuration, and hydraulic folding discharge conveyors to facilitate the quick transition from operation to transport and a fully integrated power unit with large service access.
Offering the largest hopper capacity in its class, it encompasses a 1400mm (55”) wide, variable speed feeder with forward / reverse functionality. A large feed opening ensures optimum flow of material to the scalping screen.
EDGE’s intelligent load management system constantly monitors conveyor load pressures and regulates feeder speed resulting in superior uptime by eliminating material overload and ensures optimum screening production at any given time. Hydraulic folding hopper extensions allow for side loading whilst a folding hopper rear door provides even further loading flexibility.
At the heart of the SCREENPRO is an EDGE designed high-stroke scalping screen with a screening area of up to 18.3m² (21.7yds²) and a wide variable working angle to suit an array of applications. The aggressive high stroke action results in superior material separation while a generous screening area ensures precision fines separation. To ensure minimal downtime, the screenbox has a hydraulic lift-up functionality for a quick and efficient mesh exchange process, supported by full access walkways on both sides of the screen.
Customers can choose from a wide range of screen media options including woven mesh, punch plate, finger screens and bofor (grizzly) decks to achieve a variety of final grain sizes and to process different feed material. To meet the demands of recycling applications, the SCREENPRO S18 can also be equipped with both over-band magnets and magnetic head drums for the extraction and recovery of ferrous metals.
The side discharge conveyors offer market leading belt widths and discharge heights whilst set up takes a matter of minutes. Thanks to an intuitive design, the plant is fully customizable both in the field and from the factory with side conveyors that can be reversed or discharged on the same side or converted to a two-way split without any additional parts required. Unlike competing models, the SCREENPRO S18 can be easily transported by road in these set up modes.
“We launched a wheeled scalper a number of years ago and the experience we gained from that encouraged us to go down the tracked route with the SCREENPRO,” says Tom. “The ability to incorporate different screen types on the one tracked chassis also lends itself to the rental market where we have seen a big rise in demand as many end users are holding back from making outright purchases in anticipation of lower interest rates.
“Our dealers have been looking for a machine that is easily modified to suit individual customers and the
SCREENPRO delivers on that score…
“Our dealers have been looking for a machine that is easily modified to suit individual customers and the SCREENPRO delivers on that score. It is that flexibility and versatility that EDGE Innovate have become known for over the years in our product ranges and we have followed through with that same ethos and manufacturing design with this new machine which can be utilised as a stand-alone unit or if needed, placed before or after a primary crusher.”
Another notable advantage is the machine’s user friendly controls, with sequential start/stop functionality that enhances both operational performance and safety. “We have tried to incorporate functions from our other ranges. They are simple and intuitive and mean an operator that is familiar with other EDGE equipment or even a competitor’s machine will be able to quickly and easily identify how to operate the SCREENPRO with very little training, but obviously we also provide suitable guidance along the way.”
"Designed to be easily transportable, it can be brought off the trailer and be in working mode on site in a very short space of time…"
Adds Tom: “Physically, it is a very big machine but it has been designed to be easily transportable and in terms of set up it can be brought off the trailer and be in working mode on site in a very short space of time, resulting in maximum screening time for the operator.”
The EDGE SCREENPRO S18 also offers added remote functionality for improved operator efficiency and safety. All major functions on the SCREENPRO including tracking, feed conveyor speed adjustment, sequential start up and hopper jacklegs can be remotely operated from a safe distance of up to 100m or in the comfort of the operator’s cab.
Customers will have two options for machine power – a Caterpillar or Cummins Tier 4 Final / Stage V ACERT engine, both of which will ensure the SCREENPRO S18 drive system provides the operator with a reliable, durable and fuel efficient screening solution.
There is also the option of an electric hybrid, combining the advantages of an electric power unit with traditional diesel/hydraulic power. Utilising a small onboard diesel engine for tracking and set up, operators can then connect to an external electricity supply once the machine is in position.
Like all EDGE equipment, routine daily servicing and maintenance of the SCREENPRO is made easy, with full access on two sides of the machine and a single service point to all the essential components including fuel tanks, air filters and oil gauge, all designed to make the operator’s life that much easier.
Initially, the main focus in promoting the EDGE SCREENPRO S18 will be North America where EDGE Innovate have an extensive and well established dealer network keen to get the machine out into the market there before it goes global.
“In a nutshell,” says Tom, “the EDGE SCREENPRO S18 is a highly functional, reliable, efficient and easy to operate versatile machine that perfectly complements our other products and will serve to further raise and enhance the profile of the EDGE Innovate brand in the years ahead.”
