FIRST HITACHI EX2000-7 EXCAVATOR IN GHANA
In a significant milestone for Ghana’s mining sector, Engineers & Planners have introduced the country’s first Hitachi EX2000-7 excavator at the Cardinal Namdini mine in Bolgatanga. This state-of-the-art, ultra-large excavator is now a cornerstone in loading operations, efficiently filling a fleet of rigid and articulated dump trucks.
The Hitachi EX2000-7’s remarkable performance prompted Engineers & Planners to invest in a second unit shortly after the first was commissioned. This decision was influenced by their positive experiences with their existing Hitachi fleet, including four EX1900-6 excavators.
The EX2000-7’s exceptional fuel efficiency, durability, and advanced features were critical in enhancing operational efficiency and maximizing productivity.

Andrew Ofori, Project Manager at Engineers & Planners, highlighted the significant benefits of the EX-7 model. “The digging power is excellent, loading dump trucks in under two minutes with fewer than five bucket loads before the truck departs. This efficiency has significantly boosted our productivity,” he remarked. The integrated camera system has also been a valuable addition, reducing undercarriage damage and safeguarding both the machine and operator.
ENHANCED COMFORT AND SAFETY
The Hitachi EX2000-7 is designed with operator comfort and safety in mind. Its spacious cab, equipped with air conditioning and a 360-degree camera system, ensures a comfortable and secure working environment. Ofori added, “Entering the cab feels spacious, and the air conditioning makes it a comfortable place...
