Paul Monaghan Director PTM Plant
Since Rototilt appointed Solway Machinery Sales Ltd to serve and support tiltrotator customers across the entire Scottish region earlier this year, the brand’s popularity and reputation have steadily grown, with new customers being won over to the manufacturer’s extensive range on a regular basis.
Rototilt as a brand was already one of the market leaders in the country, thanks to the focus and dedication of the team at Solway Machinery Sales Ltd who spent four years building a strong customer base initially covering Cumbria, Southern and Central Scotland, and Argyll.
Now responsible for providing sales and product support throughout Scotland, including Aberdeenshire, Inverness and along the east coast under the leadership of Les Aitchison, Rototilt’s market share continues to expand.
The company has been investing heavily to ensure all Rototilt customers benefit from the same reliable service and support no matter where they are located in the region. “This is a people industry, we depend on customers every bit as much as they should be able to depend on us as a product and service provider,” said Les. It is a strategy that is paying dividends.
One of the latest companies to invest in the Rototilt brand is PTM Plant which was established in 2009 in Aberdeenshire to provide construction and plant hire services to commercial, retail, domestic and agricultural businesses all over Scotland from its base in Oldmeldrum.
It is headed up by Director Paul Monaghan who we met up with on a private house build to see the new Rototilt RC2 tiltrotator in action on a five tonne SANY excavator, part of a mixed fleet that includes Takeuchi, Volvo and Kubota machines. “We’ve operated with other makes of tiltrotators, but the Rototilt, which is the first in our fleet, has really impressed us. It has made our jobs more profitable and more efficient.
Return to Dig
“Initially we did not realise how versatile and effective the unit is. When we had it up and running on the five tonne SANY we began to realise just how advanced it was compared to what we were used to. It has a ‘return to dig’ function as well as a useful function that vibrates or shakes the bucket. Both functions improve our productivity making our operation more efficient. Our operators absolutely love it because it makes their life that much easier on site.”
Pulsate & Shake
Easy to use and accessible to operators of all experience levels, Rototilt’s unique ‘Return to Dig’ or ‘Home’ function comes into play at the push of a button, allowing the operator to automatically return the tiltrotator to a predetermined, programmed position. awesomeearthmovers.com
“A
GREAT PIECE OF KIT
WHICH ENABLES OPERATORS TO SAFELY MOVE MATERIALS AND OTHER BITS AND PIECES AROUND THE SITE WITHOUT LEAVING THE CAB...”
It is a feature that streamlines excavation by enabling quick repositioning, improving efficiency, and reducing the time spent on manual adjustments. It is particularly useful for repetitive tasks like trenching, grading, and other excavation projects where consistent angles and positions are required.
“Being able to vibrate or shake the bucket allows us to efficiently spread materials, such as gravel or dirt. This saves time and material” stated Paul. “In addition it can be set to each of our individual operator’s preferences, so no matter who is using the excavator they can quickly access, for example, their preferred rotation speed or tilting angles, settings that work best for them.”
The design of the Rototilt RC2 is based on the same concept as the manufacturer’s larger models with an integrated swivel, cast rotator housing and oil immersed rotation system. This means less hose routing and an improved hydraulic performance, a good balance of durability versus weight, along with the ability to service the unit every 1000 hrs after the initial 500 hrs use.
Along with these features all Rototilt products include, as standard, Rototilt's Innovative Lubrication System (ILS), which enables central lubrication, and the award-winning SecureLock. SecureLock is Rototilt’s attachment locking mechanism which is designed to secure the attachment safely. There is a visual and audible warning in the cab which alerts the operator if the attachment is not securely located. Rototilt design confirms to EN474 as per the machine directive requirements.
As is well documented and appreciated by operators across the country, a Rototilt tiltrotator transforms an excavator into a truly versatile machine that is able to reach places that a conventional digger might find difficult and because the machine doesn’t have to move around or shift position as much operators are not only saving time but also fuel, as well as minimising track wear and eliminating any potential for damaging or disturbing the ground on which the machine is operating.
The Rototilt RC2 was also supplied with a gripper module, an efficient picking and handling tool described by Paul as ‘a great piece of kit which enables operators to safely move materials and other bits and pieces around the site without leaving the cab, which also saves us time and energy.’
Second to None Service & Support
He is also full of praise for the service and support from the team at Solway Machinery Sales. “This is the first time we have dealt with them and they have gone the extra mile to help us get the full potential from the Rototilt. They regularly keep in touch with us to make sure everything is running ok. Their local service engineer here in Aberdeenshire is only a phone call away if ever we need them. I cannot fault the support. It is second to none.”
