WELCOME

This issue’s highlights include a visit to the stunning Munster Valley in the east of France to see a Liebherr R914 Compact Excavator, a trip to bustling Washington State in search of a beastly 18 tonne Kobelco SK170 LC-11, and a super charged visit thanks Volvo Construction Equipment, who put us through our paces at the World Rally Cross Championship stage in Finland.

Our cover story focuses on the innovative business Zappshelter who currently boast a huge repertoire of active uses on site. Machine Operator Amy Underwood A.K.A. DiggerGirl showed us around a UK site where authorised Hitachi dealer Synergy Hire have a large number of Hitachi excavators ready for their large scale projects like work on HS2.

We also visited a huge port in Türkiye to witness at work some of the largest port handlers in the world. We spoke to port manager Emre Söyler who gave us the inside scoop into what it’s like working day to day with such massive machinery.

Up in Scotland we had the pleasure of meeting the guys at PTM Plant, who told us about the benefits of fitting a state-of-the-art Rototilt tiltrotator to any excavator. On this visit we also saw a five tonne Sany excavator at work with some of the most advanced features we’ve ever seen.

The day is almost dawning on The Awesome Earthmovers Operator Challenge in association with JCB at PlantWorx 2025. Running from the 23rd to 25th of September at Newark Showgrounds. The challenge is completely free to enter but with limited spaces available and the clock ticking, make sure to head over to www.awesomeearthmovers.com and register to take part!

THE RISE OF INNOVATIVE SKID STEER LOADERS
As we navigate the construction landscape of 2025, the international market continues to grapple with challenges such as escalating cost pressures, labour shortages, and the complexities of fixed-bid projects. These factors significantly impact construction equipment manufacturers and owners. However, advancements in construction equipment, particularly smart skid steer loaders, are paving the way for innovative solutions to these challenges. Skid steer loaders, commonly referred to as "skid steers," are compact and versatile machines integral to various construction stages. Their differential steering capabilities provide exceptional manoeuvrability, allowing operators to interchange traditional bucket attachments with specialized tools like augers, cutters, plows, forks, and more. This adaptability enables end users to perform a wide range of tasks efficiently, especially in confined spaces.
