Welcome to the inaugural USA edition of Awesome Earthmovers magazine. We’ll be bringing you the biggest and best machine stories from across the globe.
From a mighty crushing train that saved a town in the Haynesville Basin from disastrous flooding to a 4,000-ton relic of East Germany’s industrial past, this issue dives into site specifics, machine specs, and the skilled operators putting in hard work day in and day out.
Our cover story highlights the Edge Innovate VS420 low-speed shredder in action on a California job site. Partnering with one of the largest family-owned companies in the West, we visited the machine alongside its supplier, GreenRock Equipment. We’ll break down the key features that make a low-speed shredder a top choice for processing tough materials.
We also stopped in Germany to take a look at Bagger 1473. The Type SRs 1500 bucket-wheel excavator, also known as “The Blue Wonder”, now rests in a field near the former lignite mines where it once worked. Built in 1964 and retired in 2002, the 3,850-ton machine awaits restoration as an industrial monument.
A trip to the picturesque Swiss Alps had us marvelling at a specialized Hyundai HW150A working at altitude to install vital groundworks for a local resort. The HW150A’s precision and stability were highlighted as it made traversing the inclines around the site look effortless.
Finally, we visited the largest mobile crushing plant in the world, located at one of the most iconic quarries: Graniterock.
