Fitted with a five finger grab, the JCB JZ140LC was being employed on clearing rubble and other debris when we visited a site in a busy commercial zone at Fitzpatrick Street in the Revensby area of Sydney where a 7,000 sq m steel framed warehouse dating back to the 1960s had been demolished to make way for more than 30 new industrial and commercial units.
The company’s relationship with JCB stretches back for over 20 years when it was set up by Tom Dalger whose son Anthony joined the business in 2011 after studying engineering at college. “My father always had a good word to say about the JCB brand, so I guess I am following in his footsteps,” Anthony told us as we watched the new JCB JZ140LC in operation.
A company that prides itself on its eco-friendly practices, recycling, and the responsible reuse of materials in its demolition and excavation activities, Dalger Civil Pty Ltd offers a range of services, utilising the latest technology on both small and large scale projects. It enjoys an excellent track record in providing a professional service that has earned it a superior reputation and a loyal client base. Those services range from civil works and site remediation to excavation and asbestos removal, but in the past few years there’s been more of a focus on the demolition side of the business.
“It’s a niche market for us in this part of the country where only a handful of contractors are equipped to take on demolition work,” says Anthony who has grown up surrounded by trucks and machinery, so it was natural that he, along with his wife, would end up supporting his father to expand the business. “We are more focused on commercial and industrial work now rather than residential, but we will follow the work wherever it takes us.”
Positive Impact on Business
Investing in the new JCB JZ140 has already had a positive impact on the company’s activities and has impressed Anthony. “I have operated other machinery brands in the past, but like my father, my favourite is by far and away the JCB,” he says.
Without a doubt, the JCB JZ140 excavator has much to recommend it. It is fitted with a rear and side view camera as standard, while a 70/30 front screen split offers excellent front visibility from the cab and because the movement of its reduced tailswing is easier to predict and control, safety and operator confidence are also increased significantly.
In addition, the full sized cab provides a spacious and comfortable operating environment. It is also quieter inside and out as it uses six viscous rubber mounts to minimise noise and vibration. There’s a spacious luggage tray behind the operator’s seat and its large floor area with large high grip pedals gives easy and precise tracking.
The JZ140’s controls are independently adjustable so that it’s easy to find the perfect operating position and its 7" colour multi-function display, which is easy to read in all light conditions, provides instant operational information.
The JCB JZ140 excavator’s reinforced boom and dipper is made of high tensile strength steel with internal baffle plates for long life durability – ideal for tough demolition tasks. To ensure reliability, its EcoMAX T4F/Stage IV engine has been tested for 110,000 hours in 70 machines across the toughest applications and environments worldwide.
Improved Fuel Efficiency
It is a highly fuel efficient engine, partly due to the fact that EcoMAX produces high torque at just 1500 -1600 rpm, making for improved fuel-efficient matching of the hydraulics, and to reduce noise pollution from unnecessary air flow, the JZ140’s engine-driven cooling fan has a proportional control system, maintaining optimum fan speed.
“The contract to take down the warehouse is one of the biggest projects we have taken on so far, but there are others in the pipeline. It involved both the new JCB JZ140 excavator and an older JCB machine, using a variety of attachments, including shears to cut up steel beams from the 40 ft long structure,” says Anthony. “Both JCB machines have been more than capable of the task and we are delighted with their performance and reliability.”
