TILTROTATORS
STEELWRIST GUIDE
CHRISTIAN YANES INTRODUCES THE
FOR THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN BUYING A TILTROTATOR
The tiltrotator market penetration continues to grow around the world. Christian Yanes, Steelwrist VP Region EMEA, has been part of this industry for close to 20 years and shares some insights for first time buyers.
Christian Yanes, currently VP Region EMEA, has built, serviced and sold Steelwrist tiltrotators for nearly 20 years. Having been based several years in North America, as well as several markets in Europe, Christian has a unique experience in introducing the tiltrotator concept. We met up with Christian to talk about his knowledge on how the tiltrotator market has developed, and to pick his brain about the most important things to consider when investing in a tiltrotator.
Tiltrotator market development
Even though the tiltrotator concept is new in many markets, the product has been around since the late 1980’s. During the first decade, tiltrotators became popular and a standard on excavators in the Nordic countries. When Steelwrist was founded in Sweden in 2005, an international expansion was in focus from the start, with the Netherlands and the UK showing interest early on. In 2017 Christian Yanes moved to the USA to establish Steelwrist in North America. Simultaneously, South Korea and Japan started their tiltrotator journeys.
The reason that the tiltrotator penetration is growing quickly in many markets is that it is a gamechanger for increasing the efficiency and flexibility of any excavator. How big the efficiency increase really is depends on the type of work you do, what kind of work tools you use and the size of the excavator. Independent studies in Japan show that when comparing the same task with the same excavator, with and without a tiltrotator, both the efficiency increase and fuel saving was just above 40 percent. This might not be the same for all tasks, but it is quite safe to say that any five-day job you will be able to do in four or less.
