Welcome to Issue 29 of Awesome Earthmovers. We’ve got some exciting stories this issue from a fleet of custom-built scrapers to a trip down earthmoving memory lane at the Century of Caterpillar event in Iowa.
The cover story of this issue focuses on a Kobelco SK550DLC-11 high reach excavator. Working on a site in England this machine is helping with deconstruction and demolition of the old O2 headquarters: the Kobelco is fitted with a demolition spec cab and high reach boom arm. We spoke to the site manager about the ins-and-outs of this tricky urban project.
In a typically frosty yet beautiful Norway we visited a Komatsu PC950LC-11. Working alongside a giant HD605 dumper. The task at this quarry is simple, move material. Simplicity is key on this site and the circa 100 tonne Komatsu excavator meets all demands head on.
Topcon Positioning Systems showed us how their technology is keeping a highway construction project on track. There was also an eclectic mix of machinery on this site including a John Deere 345P excavator, a Volvo A30G wheeled loader and a Komatsu 51PXi crawler dozer.
Callum Dykes, owner of CD Forestry and Environmental ltd, showed us round his first in the world spec JCB 150X HD: an immaculate example of JCB’s mastery over any job site requirements and ability to cater to customer demands.
We have also dug deep into the world of tiltrotators with extensive contributions from the biggest players in the industry, including Rototilt, Steelwrist and many more!
