INTRODUCING LIVE DIG RADAR USE DATA TO DIG WITH CONFIDENCE

RodRadar’s Live Dig Radar® (LDR) technology is a cutting-edge innovation that supports Lynch's vision of a safer, smarter, and more sustainable future for the construction industry. This new addition to Lynch modern and reliable fleet enables real-time detection of underground utilities through AI-powered Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) integrated into the digging bucket. By eliminating guesswork, Lynch aims to help customers and contractors reduce the risk of costly and dangerous utility strikes.

The solution consists of the following elements

The LDR Excavate™ Bucket: This features embedded patented ground-penetrating radar.

The LDR Visualize™ Tablet: This device allows operators to control the system and, more importantly, utilises automatic algorithms to provide real-time alerts of utilities during excavation, enabling them to avoid potential damage, increase safety and avoid costly project delays.

Lynch's Partnership with RodRadar & MachineTech

This summer, Lynch proudly announced their exclusive partnership with RodRadar, global pioneers in excavation safety, and their UK distributor, MachineTech. Together, they are introducing Live Dig Radar® (LDR) technology to the UK Plant Hire Industry.

The LDR has already demonstrated its value globally, having been embedded on sites in locations in the United States, Europe and Australia. One notable application was a utility rehabilitation project at a U.S. Naval Base, where the technology helped identify 200 unknown utilities. This achievement resulted in saving over 1,000 hours of downtime and more than $1.5 million in costs.

This isn’t the first time that Lynch has adopted best practices from abroad... having recently successfully implemented a Scandinavian method of earthmoving by pairing a wheeled excavator, trailer, and tiltrotator on a busy highway project.

MachineTech officially launched the LDR at this year's PlantWorx Construction exhibition at Newark showground, and Team Lynch were proudly on hand to support.

As the exclusive UK supplier of the LDR bucket for plant hire, Lynch is leading the charge in delivering state-of-the-art safety solutions that empower customers to dig with confidence based on reliable data.

360-solution

As part of the full-service offering, Lynch ensuring everyone using this system reaps the full benefits through a comprehensive training and upskilling programme.

MachineTech engineers attended Lynch’s award-winning Cambridgeshire training centre to provide a thorough training session on the intricacies of the system.

The training spanned three days and provided Lynch engineers and trainers with a full overview of the installation and operation of the system.

Every hire package involves a comprehensive upskilling session with the operator, whether Lynch or the customers own.

This ensures they are using the system to its full capability.

Contractors and customers have also benefited from demonstration days hosted at Lynch’s training centre, allowing them to see the system in action on site-like conditions and ask any questions before bringing this to their sites.

On site

The first LDR system is currently in operation at Skanska and National Highways’ flagship Lower Thames Crossing project, one of the UK’s most ambitious infrastructure schemes. Customer feedback has been highly positive, supported by comprehensive training delivered at the start of the hire to ensure confident and effective use of the technology. The LTC team continues to champion innovative construction methods and best practices, and Lynch are proud to play a part in driving that innovation forward.

At the time of writing, the LDR is also hard at work across three major construction sites, supporting leading contractors including Balfour Beatty and Network Plus, further proving its capability and value in real-world conditions.

Ideal Projects

This technology is particularly suited for urban construction, where underground utilities are prevalent, such as on AMP8, live utilities, civil engineering and highways.

With over 60,000 underground strikes occurring each year in the UK, resulting in a £2.4 billion cost to the economy, this innovative technology represents a significant advancement in safeguarding human life, reducing environmental risks, and boosting productivity. Every service or cable strike has the potential to cause serious harm, delay projects, and release harmful materials into the ground. The LDR System prioritises safety with every dig.
