THE HISTORY OF BARFORD

In 1840 Barford and Perkins started manufacturing rollers/compactors and agricultural equipment going on to become market leaders.

A short time later in 1850 Aveling & Porter commenced production of steamrollers, although market leading companies, in 1932 both Barford & Perkins and Aveling & Porter experienced financial difficulties which resulted in ownership being transferred to Ruston and Hornsby resulting in the creation of Aveling Barford in February 1934.

Success followed for Aveling Barford and by the late 30’s they made over 75% of the rollers in Britain and were world leaders in their field. During the war years they transferred their engineering knowledge to supply munitions and gun carriers.

Continuing the tradition of engineering excellence Barford today manufactures a range of mobile screening and materials handling equipment. With a focus on reliability, simplicity and functionality. The range and breadth of Barford’s production capabilities now requires a scale up in facilities, with a new Dromore, Northern Ireland, based factory due to open early 2026, Barford shows no signs of slowing.
